WHY JIM?
The Town of Monument deserves leaders who conduct themselves with professionalism and who seek solutions that make sense for residents as our community continues to grow. We must make sure our town is properly staffed and foster trust between town staff, the council, and residents. During more than 35-years as a financial services professional, I have had four years as the Village Center Metro District President in Monument, and I have now served for six years on the Monument town council. I have built relationships with our community that demonstrate my trustworthiness and reliability as we continue to be a wonderful place to live.
I will bring the same traits to citizens and their tax dollars that I bring to my financial clients and their investments. I will continue to serve as an approachable leader, as I did while negotiating the Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) with the town, which resulted in fiscal stability and steadied home values in Village Center Metro District. I was also instrumental in the 300k grant for Jackson Creek Pkwy expansion, and I serve on the Fountain Creek Watershed District to learn about water patterns and how efficiencies can be made to improve our growing water needs and protect our ecosystem. I view our town as the buffer from an ever-expanding Colorado Springs and will fight for conservative policies and small town values as Monument transitions into a larger political voice along the front range. It is that same spirit of cooperation that is necessary for Monument— with it’s friendly, small-town feel—to prosper.
With all the new families moving here imminently, experienced leadership is critical! Right now, Monument needs a steady hand as we hire a new permanent town manager, work on a new comprehensive development plan, and are on the verge of making history with regional renewable surface water that will change generations and end our dependence on finite aquifer water. We must also have a plan for sustainable growth that includes properly maintained infrastructure, provisions for essential public safety functions, and a water plan that safeguards our investments in our homes.
I love our town! I have lived here for seventeen years, and I know with proven, trusted leadership, it will continue to be a wonderful place to live for years to come.
PRIORITIES
FISCAL RESONSIBILITY
Your tax dollars are hard-earned and should be well-managed. The most important needs of our town must be prioritized to maintain quality of life for residents.
INFRASTRUCTURE
Infrastructure is a basic responsibility of local government. We must make certain that we grow sustainably and plan appropriately to maintain our roads and utility delivery systems.
WATER
Colorado water laws are complicated. We must ensure that our community has a long-term water plan, a realistic understanding of how to achieve it, and the humbleness to listen to experts in this field.
PUBLIC SAFETY
We all want to live in a safe community. Supporting our first responders and prioritizing public safety as a core function of government is necessary to safeguard our community and residents.
